Allison MacLeod finished third in the East Enterprises No. 6 Ford Racing Technology/Beast Chassis Beast in Thursday night’s USAC National Midget Car Series race at Mt. Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. MacLeod wrestled a tight condition on the tricky 3/10-mile oval yet still managed to score her second top-five run in two regional starts.
“Mt. Lawn is a unique track and we had a lot of fun out there but we were just a little bit too tight to get up and fight for the win,” MacLeod said. “We’re out there doing our best to win but we’re also here to learn and we learned a lot.”
MacLeod also attempted to qualify for Saturday night’s “Night Before the 500” at ORP, but just missed transferring into the feature in her qualifying race.
“We’re going to do a handful of National Midget races and we knew it would be really tough to come to ORP and make the show,” MacLeod said. “There were almost 50 cars there trying to make it and we missed it by one spot in the qualifying race. It’s nice to have someone like Bob East to talk to once I get out of the car. We learned a lot that will help us the next time we come to ORP and some of those lessons will help at some other tracks too.”
